Peevish, bad-tempered Mrs. Bramson makes life unpleasant for her niece Olivia, her nurse, and all the staff in her New England cottage. A handsome young man named Dan appears, in need of a job, and his presence begins to lift the spirits of the whole house. But Dan's arrival coincides with the disappearance of a local woman, and when the police come to question the Bramson household, suspicions and terror begin to rise.
