Love Letters by A.R. Gurney, featuring Brooke Adams & Tony Shalhoub

Georgia Ensemble Theatre welcomes stars of television, film, and stage, Brooke Adams (Lend Me a Tenor, The Heidi Chronicles, Invasion of the Body Snatchers) & Tony Shalhoub (Monk, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Wings, Galaxy Quest, The Band's Visit) for a special staged reading benefitting Georgia Ensemble Theatre. One night only - Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 7:30 p.m.

Love Letters is the story of straitlaced Andy and uninhibited Melissa, whose lifelong friendship begins in elementary school and lasts through ups and downs for the rest of their lives. Told entirely through correspondence ranging from birthday cards to soul-searching epistles, Love Letters reveals a pair of lives that connect, wander, intertwine, and diverge while maintaining deep affection for one another. Real-life married couple Brooke Adams & Tony Shalhoub bring the two passionate, funny characters to life in A.R. Gurney’s readers-theatre-style play. This touching, funny play is a perfect mid-week refreshment for friends and couples alike. Bring a group of people you love for a feel-good night at the theatre!

The performance is about two hours long, with an intermission. There will be concessions and a bar open before the show and during intermission (cash or CashApp only).

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

TONY SHALHOUB is a Tony Award, Golden Globe Award and four-time Emmy Award winning actor with a diverse and extensive resume. Most recently, he is known for his role as Abe Weissman on Prime Video’s THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL, for which he has won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and two SAG awards for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series.  
On the Broadway stage, Shalhoub most recently starred in David Cromer’s THE BAND’S VISIT at The Ethel Barrymore Theater, winning a Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical. Prior to that, Tony starred in Terry Kinney’s revival of Arthur Miller’s THE PRICE opposite Mark Ruffalo and Danny DeVito. Tony’s other theater work includes starring in the Broadway productions of ACT ONE, GOLDEN BOY and CONVERSATION WITH MY FATHER, receiving Tony Award nominations for each performance. Tony also appeared opposite Diane Lane in Lincoln Center’s Off-Broadway production of THE MYSTERY OF LOVE & SEX. 
Tony Shalhoub is perhaps best known for his work as the obsessive-compulsive detective Adrian Monk in the hit television series MONK for which he won a Golden Globe Award, three Primetime Emmy Awards as well as two SAG Awards for his work on the show.
Additional television credits include BRAINDEAD, NURSE JACKIE, TOO BIG TO FAIL and WINGS.
Shalhoub’s film credits include Stanley Tucci’s FINAL PORTRAITBARTON FINK, PAIN & GAIN, MEN IN BLACK I and IIGALAXY QUEST, THE SEIGE, THE MAN WHO WASN’T THERE, BIG NIGHT as well as voicing the character of ‘Luigi’ in the CARS franchise.
Tony just wrapped filming on the fifth season of THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL and can be seen in the upcoming features FLAMIN’ HOT and LINOLEUM.

BROOKE ADAMS, born in New York City, began acting at age 6 in her father’s summer theater. At 16 she landed a TV series with Burl Ives. She has starred in many movies including: Terence Mallick’s Days Of Heaven, Phillip Kauffman’s Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, Richard Lester’s Cuba, David Cronenberg’s The Dead Zone, Allison Ander’s Gas Food Lodging, Lee Grant’s Tell Me a Riddle, Michael Roemer’s Vengeance is Mine and Tony Shalhoub’s Made-Up.
The Harvard Film Archive curated a retrospective of her films for the fall of 2022.
Her theatre credits include Key Exchange, The Cherry Orchard, and The Philanderer with Christopher Walken. Most recently she was in Andre Belgrader’s acclaimed production of Samuel Becket’s Happy Days. She met her husband, Tony Shalhoub doing Wendy Wasserstein’s The Heidi Chronicles on Broadway. 
They have two daughters.
She returned to Broadway with her husband in Stanley Tucci’s production of Lend Me A Tenor.
On television she was featured on many episodes of Monk. But before playing on Tony's show, she appeared in Thirtysomething, Moonlighting, Family, The Lion of Africa, Special People with Liberace, the miniseries Lace and Lace II, and more recently Brain Dead with her husband.
She is now a painter.
